Overview 

The School District of Collier County has 50 schools including two charter schools.  The district serves a total student population of 43,214.  There are 30 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, 8 high schools, and a Pre-K thru 12 school (Everglades City School).

The Office of  the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), formerly known as the State Education Office (SEO), is a high-performing, transparent agency that sets proactive policies, exercises vigilant oversight and directs resources that guarantee residents educated in the District of Columbia are among the highest performers in the nation; fully prepared for successful postsecondary learning and employment in the creative economy.

As the State Education Agency for DC, the OSSE sets statewide policies, provides resources and support, and exercises accountability for ALL public education in DC.

The Learning First Alliance is a partnership of 16 education associations with more than 10 million members dedicated to improving student learning in America's public schools.

Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) will share the results of a new and groundbreaking study, conducted by Grunwald Associates, that pinpoints what those closest to students have to say about assessment.

Key findings include:

  • What types of assessments parents and educators find most useful
  • Parent, teacher and administrator’s priorities for students’ learning and growth
  • What subjects beyond math and English should be assessed
  • Policy implications for education reform

The breakfast program will include a presentation of study findings, Congressional and practitioner remarks and a Q & A session.  Speakers include:
